"Finding Christ in the Wilderness: Lessons from Jesus' 40 Days."
The wilderness is a place of testing, refining, and preparation. It is where we face challenges that reveal the depth of our faith. As we walk through this Lenten season, we are reminded of Jesus' 40 days in the wilderness and how He endured trials with unwavering trust in God.
Lessons from the Wilderness
In Matthew 4:2-4 (NIV), we read:
"After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, ‘If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.’ Jesus answered, ‘It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Jesus teaches us that true sustenance comes from God. In times of struggle, we are tempted to seek quick fixes, shortcuts, or distractions that offer temporary relief. But just as Jesus relied on the Word of God instead of earthly solutions, we too must anchor ourselves in God’s truth.
The wilderness is not just a place of lack; it is a place of learning. It is where our faith is proven—not by what we say, but by how we endure. This season of Lent calls us to go beyond mere belief and demonstrate our faith through resilience, trust, and obedience.
Living to Prove Our Commitment
Too often, we focus on how much we believe in God, but the real question is: Can God believe in us? Lent is a time for us to show that we are serious about our walk with Christ. We prove our faith by:
Trusting God in uncertainty—relying on His promises when life feels uncertain.
Rejecting shortcuts—choosing integrity over convenience.
Seeking the Word of God—letting Scripture guide our decisions and actions.
Our faith is not just about what we say; it is about how we live. Today, let us walk with purpose, proving our commitment by the way we love, serve, and trust God.
A Prayer for Strength and Leadership
Heavenly Father,
As we walk through this season of Lent, help us to find You in the wilderness. Strengthen our hearts to endure the trials that shape us into faithful disciples. May we, like Jesus, remain steadfast, relying not on temporary comforts but on Your eternal truth.
We pray for our leaders—spiritual, community, and global. Grant them wisdom, patience, and integrity as they guide others. May they seek You in their decisions and serve with humility and purpose.
Lord, today we commit to living in a way that proves our faithfulness. In our words, may we speak life. In our actions, may we show love. In our struggles, may we trust You fully. We believe in You, and in this season, we pray that You can believe in us.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Morning Affirmation:
