A Time for Reflection: Examining Our Hearts in the Light of Christ
Lent is a season of deep introspection, a time to pause, reflect, and allow God’s light to reveal what lies within our hearts. Psalm 139:23-24 reminds us of this sacred work: “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Self-examination is not always easy. It requires honesty, humility, and a willingness to confront the things we often ignore—our doubts, fears, hidden struggles, and habits that pull us away from God. Yet, in this process, there is grace. God does not call us to examine our hearts to condemn us but to transform us. When we allow His light to shine into our lives, we discover the areas that need change and the depth of His love that sustains us.
Lent invites us to ask the hard questions: Are we truly living as disciples of Christ? Do our words and actions reflect His love? Are we carrying burdens that we need to lay at His feet? As we journey toward the cross, this is our opportunity to realign our hearts with His, to let go of what does not serve Him, and to embrace the renewal He offers.
True reflection leads to action. Once we see what God reveals, we must decide—will we stay the same, or will we allow Him to shape us into who we are called to be?
Reflection Questions:
What is one area of your heart that you sense God calling you to examine this Lent?
Do you need to release any habits, attitudes, or distractions to grow closer to Christ?
In what ways does your daily life reflect the love, grace, and truth of Jesus?
How can you create more space for God’s presence in your heart and mind this season?
What is one step you can take today to align your life more fully with Christ?
Lent is not just about giving up but about giving in to God’s refining love. May we allow His light to search, transform, and lead us in the way everlasting.
